ATHE Level 5 Health and Social Care Management
Programme overview:
The ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management for Health and Social Care is a 120 credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to the 3rd year of a bachelor’s degree. This qualification has been designed for learners who are seeking to progress to university to take a bachelor’s degree course in an area of management within the Healthcare Sector.
Programme Structure
The ATHE level 5 Extended Diploma consist of four core mandatory units. There are three or four optional units in this qualification. To be awarded the ATHE level 5 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care Management learners must achieve a minimum of a Pass in all units:

Module Description
Facilitating Change in Health and Social Care
his unit aims to develop learners’ knowledge and applied skills to be able to facilitate change in health and social care setting. Learners will gain knowledge and show applied skills regarding principles of change management and factors that drive change in health and social care.
Managing Communication
This unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding of how communication takes place within and between organisations, the potential pitfalls and the benefits of good practice.
People Management
In this unit learners develop the knowledge and understanding of what motivates individuals and teams and be able to use this to review people management strategies used in organisations.
Research Project
To formulate a research specification on a chosen topic, implement the research project, evaluate and present the research findings.
Leading Practice in Health and Social Care
To be an effective in leadership in health and social care requires a need to supervise and manage provision and lead and support others through workforce provision. This unit will develop student’s skills and knowledge in the role of a Manager and leader in developing strategies to provide quality provision in health and social care.
Corporate Social Responsibility
This unit aims to give learners the knowledge and applied skills around corporate social responsibility within a health and social care setting. Learners will understand current corporate social responsibility issues and the impact of these for a business and stakeholders. Learners will be able to demonstrate the skills within a health and social care setting.
Leading Organisational Equality and diversity
The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to develop an understanding of the importance of managing equality and diversity within the organisation and to understand how to lead the approach to equality and diversity within an organisation.
Employability Skills
This unit aims to give learners the knowledge and applied skills around employability skills within a health and social care setting. Learners will learn about and understand the dynamics of working with others. Learners will be able to demonstrate the skills needed to determine own responsibilities and performance, development of interpersonal and transferable skills and strategies for problem solving.
Managing Stakeholder
The aim of the unit is to enable the learner to develop the knowledge and understanding required to engage with stakeholders and to learn how to manage stakeholders in projects and organisations.
Entry Criteria:
Age: 17 +
A GCE Advanced level profile with achievement in 2 or more subjects supported by 5 or more GCSEs at grades C and above
- other related level 3 subjects
- an Access to Higher Education Certificate delivered by an approved further education institute and validated by an Access Validating Agency
- other equivalent international qualifications
English Language: IELTS or Anglia Examination level B2 or above. Min 5.5 in each component.
